Valentines Day: Cute During Childhood; Annoying During Adulthood

Valentines Day During Childhood
As kids, Valentines Day meant one thing: valentines. The little cards that said "Happy Valentines Day" on them with all kinds of different designs. That was the best part; seeing what cool card you got. They had every brand of valentine possible: anything Disney, Spiderman, Power Rangers, Pokemon, you name it, they had it. It was a nice little treat. It showed that at least some people cared enough to give me a valentine when they didn't have to.
Valentines Day back in my childhood also had a big focus on guys who had crushes on girls, who bought them outrageous things and gave them in public in the school hallways to impress them. I remember once, a friend and neighbor of mine who has since passed away. RIP Danny. You'll always be missed. But back to the story. He was kind of dating this girl–her name as of right now–I can't remember, and on Valentines Day, in fourth grade I believe, he brought in a giant plush dog. One that you would see at the boardwalk games for prizes. I was pretty impressed. I'm sure mostly everyone was. The girl was ecstatic; carried it all day.
And that's what I'm getting at here. Back when we were young, it was cute and innocent. Because we didn't know better. Our lives weren't complicated back then. We didn't drive. We didn't have jobs. Cell phones barely existed. There wasn't all that middle stuff getting in the way like we have today.
Valentines Day During Adulhood
Now when I say adulthood, I mean after high school and college. Valentines Day has grown–for a lot of people–into a sad, moody day. Sure, there are plenty of happy people in relationships all over the world who love this day. But to a lot of us, it just points out a feeling we all hate to have: loneliness. Even if you are a loner and don't like having many friends, you feel lonely at some point. We all do–some even daily. Humans were made to be around each other.
Now, during Valentines Day, you are in either three groups–The person who doesn't have a date; the person who has a date; or the person who has a a boyfriend or girlfriend that can't decide what to do, and their Valentines Day is ruined. The person who doesn't have a date on the 14th usually feels down and a little sad. But they make it through. The person who has the date can have the most variables: are they in a relationship? are they just friends? I have had terrible Valentines Day dates before. Just awkward silences. And I only went on the date just to go on the date for Valentines Day. That's what loneliness does though. It can drive us crazy. But if you hang on long enough, and wait, you'll find your Valentine soon enough.
One more thing I want to bring up about Valentines Day, is the the need to feel to buy someone flowers and chocolates. That's not thinking outside the box at all. Flowers and chocolates are the easy, unthoughtful last-minute gift bought just to buy it. If you are going to buy something, make it count. Even if you don't have a lot of money, you can still do creative and romantic things that won't cost a lot. If you are into a girl, impress her.
Well with Valentines Day coming up in just a few days, I thought I'd share my thoughts on it. I hope you enjoy it! Please Comment and Follow!

Haha, this is a funny point of view. I'm not particular on holidays, but nobody is going to stop celebrating them anytime soon. I wrote several articles on valentine's day for everyone in your three groups actually. Although it's unnecessary to isolate feelings to one day, if people need an excuse, then nothing to be done about it.
By the way, I hated valentine's day till I became an adult and i'm 23.
If you've got a girl check out some of my hubs on valentine's, if not, check them out anyway. lol
